Garden harvests increased this week with daily pickings of tomatoes, summer squash, and pole beans along with a few peppers, potatoes, and lettuce. Juliet is far ahead of the rest of the paste tomatoes with a few Heinz 2653 coming a long. Most are eaten up quickly.
I was surprised to see a few cucumbers on the deer eaten vines. I think a two plants may recover enough to produce more if the deer leave them alone. The plants are growing on a trellis, so it is difficult to protect them from the deer:
The blueberries are ripening and we’ve been eating them almost as quickly as we are picking them. I made a batch of Blueberry Syrup that we enjoyed on ice cream and French toast.
Emily (Silver Laced Wyandotte) laid her first egg this week. I was able to watch her from the chicken cam while I was working:
